71. Hannah- So what your saying is two people who love eachother just as much as a man and woman can't have a special bond? You know what that is? That's called being close minded. Open up your eyes and realize times are changing and if two people love eachother they should have the right to be together. I'm 120% for gay marriage.

72. jessica: for it and anyone who's against it is an ignorant douchebag

73. Amber: for it...They are people to. So why not??

74. D.J. 76. Justice - for it all the way. if a gay couple gets married, how is that going to hurt you? a gay couple is getting married today. please, please send me a message if your little mind implodes. thanks.

77] Fae - For it. People should be able to do whatever they want and not have to get judged for it. And religious people dont know what the hell they're talking about and I hate them.

78~§tàc¥, i just want to say that the people up above that are preaching to others about their god, that not everyone believes in the same things, and if this 'god' is what everyone says he is, than he wants everyone to be equal, and happy, and god damnit i know those religious fucks up there think that gays are damned to hell, for LOVING... the same way a man loves a woman and visa versa... tell me how love is different is any way, no matter how it's used it's all the same... b/c love has to be shared in order to have it... i'm for it and fuck everyone who's against it.. times are changing.. grow the fuck up and realize.. <3

79:DUGAN....for you fags above that are against it....who im fucking has nothing to do with you....THATS RIGHT PEOPLE! AND WE'RE ALL TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!! people dont know it, but the times have changedddddddddddddd sista! so many people are against gay marriages, couples, tendencies, and straight people who are comfortable with gays. the way i figure, were all queer on the inside and some people wear it on their sleeves (like yours truly). most of the people who are against it are "devout christians". devout, meaning 1. very dedicated or 2. bullshitters with twisted perspectives, you decide. dont get me wrong, christians are not bad people! i live with a handful of them myself, but some of them, mostly catholics for some reason, pour their little godly hearts out about how god loves us all and how we can all "redeem" ourselves by praying meaninglessly to a god that we only know by the fancy words the leather bound bible says and praying before meals because were supposed to, but then they rant and slander gay rights. people are people, sexuality is meander, and love is wonderful. people, from gays and lesbians, to crossdressers, transsexuals, and s&m fanatics all the way to straight old people drinking lemonade on the porch to cops driving in cruisers- the one thing we have in common is WE'RE ALL PEOPLE WITH FEELINGS, BRAINS, HEARTS, AND INTESTINES. if u disect a gay person, they are no different then a straight person. this is only damn free country where u cant do anything worthwhile or meaningful. the only reason gays dont have rights is because the constitution didnt have the word gay in it! our president is a hick with a speech impediment for christs sake. how reassuring is that? the brightest crayon in the box is laying under a bridge somewhere with a can of kidney beans and four children under a sleeping bag in the freezing fucking rain and a rich redneck whos daddy made it big is running the country, hes definately NOT THE BRIGHTEST CRAYON in thats particular crayola box and hes not the spiciest spice in the cupboard, so why is he the top man representative of a country who runs in 4th place on global population charts? u know what i say? i say we get the queer fairy in the gay bar that saturday and get him to run the country for a night or two and i GUARANTEE thats those would be the greatest two days our country has seen since it was borne.

heres something for people who are against gay marriages, and take this food for thought seriously, please!!!!--
one out of every 8 people are gay at least to a percentage, thats a lot of the world if u think about it. and if u push that part of the world away, thats a lot less people you'll have to pick on in "heaven", correct? what if u get to "heaven" and talk to your god about ur pitiful, selfish life, and god has a lisp, a purse, hair extension and a corset on? quite a buzz kill no? "god" wouldnt have created gays unless the gays WERE MEANT TO BE!!!! god knows everything, see everything, and most other religions their god, goddesses, deities, and saviors are the same- so why were there, are there, and soon to be there, gays in the world? rig ur stem with that and smoke it, fag bashers!!!!!!!!!!!!....fuck you...im FOR it.....and if i cant married to the one i love then you bastards shouldnt be allowed to get married ...FUCKING HETEROS!!!

80) DUGAN- AND FOR YOU RELIGIST BASTARDS.....DIVORCE IS JUST AS BAD ...AND MORE OF THE WORLDS POPULATION IS DIVORCED MOR THEN GAY....FUCKING BIGOTS

81.Becca- For it, fuck the bible its just a stupid piece of literature taken to the extreme.

82. Jon - I'm for it. As long as people can live their life without hurting others, I really don't care what they do. People really need to stop with all the hate. I don't get it. People are people, and we're all just getting through life the best we can. I'm all about acceptance and peace. God or whatever power there might be doesn't have time to give a damn about what goes on between the sheets, so get off your fuckin religious soapbox. Life's too short. Love and let live.

83. LaChandra*** 4

84/~CHRISTINA~* 4 it i don't really care wht they do as long as they are happy go for it. if i was gay i would want to get married to the person i love. picture it wht if u were not aloud to get married cause you are different tht is just wrong so leave tem the fuck alon damn wht did they do.

85. Daniel - Against it for many many reasons. Im not against gays, my gay friends know where i stand on this and are still my friends lol, but i think marraige is a separate issue. I think they should have equal rights though. Hawaii has a policy called reciprocal rights thats pretty cool...

86. Becca - Definately for it. love is love people.

87 Kelly Baca~ FOR FUCK HAVING YOUR OWN OPINION IF YOUR NOT GAY DONT JUDGE ..FOR ALLTHE WAY

88. Tara~ totally for it.......my mom is gay! and she and her lover have been through it all...........they have been together for 18 fucking years! so hell yeah I'm for it.

89. Samantha. -- FOR IT!!! HOLY SHIT LIKE I WOULD EVER BE AGAINST LOVE. fuck.
oh yeah. and. NUMBER 58....LEARN HOW TO TALK. YOU'RE ALL SORTS OF SOUNDING LIKE A DUMBASS. who can go against love, WHO??!?!!?

90. Selena- I'm against gay marriage. Marraige is totally between a man and a woman FOR SURE! That's the way God meant it to be. That's just the way it should be!!!! AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care what anyone thinks about me, that's me and MY OPINION. So all of you who want to bash me for being against...keep on judging me....just wait, you're judgement day will come and we'll see how you get judged!
I want ALL of you who say you're "for it" and are bashing God or Christians or any other religion to do a little research on the Marriage Vows...Tell me does it not state in the vows that the marriage is in the presence of God or in the name of God. So Before you go on bashing us about our beliefs take a few minutes do a little research and back up your statement(s).

100. Sommer - For it. They're not pushing their ways of life to me, telling me to be gay. I'm not going to tell them it's wrong for them to be gay. And even if marriage started out between man and woman, it's something your parents push into you from when you are a child, so everyone wants to get married at some point, why not let them get married, it's a free country. That's what I don't get. I call them "them" and that's wrong. We're all human beings, no matter what race, religion.....sexual preference... and "God" is supposed to love all of us equally. So that should not even be brought up. There's my piece. I don't want to offend people. I'm for it. yay.

101. Amy - FOR IT 100%. Love is love, doesn't matter. Any person should be allowed to marry whoever they please. (Excluding animals, family memebers, children, you get the picture.) No one is being hurt by two men or two women getting married, so lay off and stop bashing what you don't understand.

102. T - For it. Anybody can be in love with anybody. There's no wrong in loving someone of the same sex.

103. Cary-FOR THE CHOICE. Read my next bulletin if you wanna know what I think.

104. Megan - FOR IT. All of you people that are against it are sick. It's sad to think that people STILL say that "god" wanted it to be between a man and woman yet "god" created all of us and THAT means that "god" created GAY PEOPLE TOO YOU FUCK HEADS!! And so THAT means that "god" DID NOT mean marriage to be between just a man and a woman. He HAD to have created it for ANY 2 people that loved eachother enough to want to get married. quit letting you fucking bible run the country because NOT EVERYONE believes that shit. Lay off of the gay people already! Let them fucking get married!

live 105. Brady- I'm against marraige in general, but it shouldn't matter if you're gay or not. if you seriosuly give a shit about the bible that much where you follow every word to a t, then go live in the middle east. Jesus lived over there, not here in America.

10666.) Beelzebot (yes The Robot Devil) Seriously. you meatbags realize that the issue of gay marriage is really just another aside from the evil powers that be to polarize you, get you to take sides, and fight it out over something so that no one notices that your freedom is being sold right out from under you to the highest bidder. I'll be surprised if anyone without a corporate mastercard and six BMW's will have the right to get married in the next twenty years much less homosexuals (who honestly make the world a better place, nothing like being able to stare seven million sheep in the face and tell them to take their dominant paradigm and shove it up their ass). Christianity was a good idea when andrew lloyd weber made a musical out of it but since then it's been turned into, bastardized into yet another all too entertaining form of control by those who control the money and the power in this country. Anyone who has read any actual history knows that there's been nothing angelic or godlike about christianity since, oh, around the time of constantinople when all the true followers of christ had to go underground to avoid the percecution of (yes, again, the keepers of the $$ and power) those who took the idea of christ and re-wrote it into a system of beliefs that would firmly entrench them into a heirarchy of power that would last for centuries. And countless people of questionable moral principle have followed in their footsteps ever since. I'm not saying that there aren't good people in the church, but they all answer to someone higher-up and higher up to the guy who's holding all the cards. I actually saw pat robertson tell the followers of his television show that a vote for gore would be a vote for satan. He actually said that jesus wants you to vote for George W. bush. Anyway. The time that I believe the Bible was re-edited to include the crap about homosexuality probably had something to do with the greeks anyway... Hello. Anyone who was anyone in ancient greece had a 13 year old boy on the side to play "hide the salami" with. Just ask Hedonism Bot. The bible was a way of passing along the social norms of the time. It's been re-edited by human being after human being and it didn't end up being a single book that was well, somewhat unchanging until the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1450. And guess what. That spaked wars all over europe. the Fabled "Protestant Revolutions" once the bible was translated into languages other than greek (Martin Luther) people could go and read for themselves what it said and the Roman catholic church (in big time power at the time) could no longer alter and embellish it as they saw fit. Before that the chuch had carte blanche to tell people whatever they wanted. THey even sold "Indulgences" . Basically they would sell you, for cold cash money, the right to go ahead and commit some sinful act, and if you bought one of these things you could go fuck your seceretary, have butt sex with a man, kill your boss, whatev... and still get into heaven, as long as you could cough up the cheddar. Now if that isn't taking a certain amount of liberty with the suppossed "word of God" than I don't know what is. Now would these priests, Holy men, really have messed with the "word of God" if they really thought that was where it was coming from? you tell me. It's an outdated manuscript. It was helpful before the advent of modern laws and governments as a way of doling out a set of right's and wrongs, and discussion of the bible was the main source of philosophical discourd for several centuries. but in a way, the advent of the printing press got us stuck in our tracks. We're still attempting to abide by the social standards of 1450. Times have changed. The species is no longer in danger of homosexualizing itself into extinction (a baseless and irrational fear even back then). Let's all just get on with it. If you personally have a hard time dealing with the issue of homosexuality talk to someone about it. Get it out in the open. Watch "American Beauty" a few times and have a deep conversation with yourself. Let's not let this issue divide us. We are facing some real problems. Economic, social, political crises are all around us. The same divsory devices are being used to polarize us against the muslim world. The "Number of Deaths Today" shouldn't be an everyday run-of-the-mill statistic. Let's let the preachers worry about the afterlife, let the saved go and have their "rapture" But we have to go out and try to save the planet. After the righteous take off we're going to be stuck here and someone has to care about this planet.

107 Michelle C.-totally against it. who would be for it? i mean, come on, if everyone was gay, for instance, i mean sure the world would be a lot cleaner, but how would we reproduce??? o, and the ppl who say stuff like o, gay marrige is totally fine, the bible is just some exaggerated or stupid book that people actually take seriously, either you're gay yourself, or you just can't take the truth and your jealous. but when ppl say stuff like that, it is totally offensive cause, with me being christian and all, the bible is like, the guideline of life. scientist lie, god made us, not evolution, i mean, wouldn't you rather be created out of nothing then be related and having evolved from monkeys??? if you still don't believe me then how would evolution work??? how would anything be created??? sometimes it's just better not to know the anwsers to life. because you might find something out that you'll regret.

108- Giorgia N. 120% for it....any one that is not is closed minded and doesent have any gay friends and dosent understand! its like saying u cant get married to somone you love..and god michelle C. shut up with this whole evolution thing everyone isent gay so its no problem with the reroducing thing.......wow......maybe ppl should get over themselvs and under stand wut they go threw ...and if it dosent have to do with u then why does it consern u so much then y would u care..and if u would stop living in ur own little world and opend up to other ppl then u also might under stand..........and for all you ppl from myspace that do agree...u at least know wut ur doing.....<3 (helped writen bye Giorgia<3,ali C<3, sarah mae<3

109 Dougie Fresh- No fucking way it just is not right maybe if they stay at home dont bother us about it and they just fucking piss me off
It is ADAM AND EVE NOT ADAM AND STEVE

110. Melissa- For it all the way... if two people are happy then thewy should be allowed to have a union that is recognized by the government of every state.

111. Charlie- all for dudes fin dudes and chicks fin chickall they want and all for union all under the eyes of teh law but why force the religions who oppose gay marrage to approve of it that just pisses people off so support cilivil union but dont call people who are against it bigots and assholes call them overly religous but to call them bigots and assholes just makes you look like a bigot ass hole to them because being a ignorant bigotasshole is not listining to the others opinion weather or not it is stupid so there is a piece of my mind.
PS i was l a little drunk becasue im in germanyso mind the spelling but this is my view

112. Brittany - I do not think that gay marriage should be legal. i have a lot of reasons and i am not going to get into to it because it is stupid to do so on a myspace bulletin.
i don't hate gay people though. i did have some gay friends (they went far away to college so i don't really get to many chances to talk to them anymore).
Yea i don't care what any of you say. this is my view and it isn't going to change. so don't even argue with me.

FUCK THIS!!! FUCK MY LIFE!!!

do people really think this? this stuff they wrote? or do they just write to put on a personality and act like they have these thoughts? i mean, i hate falsity but if they feel like they need to act a certain way i understand it (and i do it too). i cant imagine ppl actyally believing this stuff tho. aaahhhhh

it is getting to the point that all my anti elitism is gone to aaahh i am going to totally separate myself from such ignorance as it is just wasting my time which is potential to REALLY understand things.

but I buy into nietzsche's awesome critique of christianity and I see the whole anti-gay thing as just another manifestation of christianity's anti-naturalness or, in other words, that christianity (and pretty much every religion) is anti-life
it's just another example of christianity condemming rather than sublimating (making useful) human drives which are considered dangerous, and that is to not even mention how harmless expressing sexuality is :P

see, this is the kind of thing i don't even get started on anymore, its not worth the stress.

i am a confirmed catholic, maybe nnot practicing, but i still was raised that way, and no one in my family is opposed to gay marriage.

why? because its ignorant, tho this is my view on it.

marriage IS a religious union, and if a religion wants to have a certain policy on gay marriage, then i have no problem, find a new religion.
but marriage should NOT be a legal thing, every legal pairing should be a civil union, because all it serves in that sense is for health care and tazes, thats about it, so civil union is a much better term anyway.

July 15 2005, 16:34:29 UTC 6 years ago

yes. that's exactly what i think.

[info]mountainfaerie8

July 16 2005, 01:01:03 UTC 6 years ago

Yay, John, I totally agree.

No more marriage liscences. Civil union liscenses. "Marriage" should be the religious ceremony.

And i'm catholic too and not again gay civil unions.

[info]iampunha

July 26 2005, 01:51:41 UTC 6 years ago

Actually, there is already a religious ceremony. It's called a wedding. That's why there's no talk about gay wedding; weddings are a purely religious matter. Being wed carries zero legal weight; it's the marriage certificate that matters.

[info]mountainfaerie8

July 26 2005, 02:04:25 UTC 6 years ago

The term marriage is in the Bible. Therefore, religious. Fuck off, you pompous ass.

[info]mountainfaerie8

July 26 2005, 02:07:04 UTC 6 years ago

OH, and I meant the damn wording. Not using the word "marriage," rather, using the word "union."

July 26 2005, 07:26:53 UTC 6 years ago

Cite?

And it's pretentious, not pompous, and jackass, not mere ass. I *was* promoted.

:( I feel like you totally know what people are talking about but catch people on technicalities. I know that often in my writing I misuse words and misphrase things, and it is something that I really need to/am trying to work on. If when I wrote something poorly someone helped me rephrase and suggested alternatives based upon what they thought I was going to say, that would be helpful, but often I feel like instead you just argue against what I am saying because of the things I miswrote.

In this case, I think it was pretty obvious what mountainfaerie meant. She meant to say that the term "marriage" should be reserved solely for the religious aspect of unions/licences, rather than that the term marriage should be reserved solely for the religious aspect of the "ceremony".

This is a good thing to point out and it is important in formal arguments. In formal arguments, if we don't use the correct word of clearly define what we mean by different words that can cause BIG problems with what we are trying to say. This is very important when we are doing legal writing or something. However, I think she really wasn't being careful to be technically accurate and it wasn't a problem since we knew what she meant and in this circumstance there is no need to take the time to make sure everything is technically accurate.

Regarding her comment as well as in general, you do sometimes come off as kind of pompous, honestly. After interacting more with you I am getting the sense that you probably don't mean it that way, but at first when I first joined grammarpolice rather than seeing comments as just corrections, I felt like I was personally being criticized (and that's not just you, that was in general in the community.) Eventually I started to get more of a feel for the community, and I see it more as methoical now to correct anything that is not technically correct because where we are looking for grammar to be important is where we would see stuff like that being important, and it is just policy to say everything the way it should technically be said.

You probably said your comment in an informative manner, but I'm sure you can see how that would be read as "ooh, I am right and you are wrong and I am going to argue with you." I'm sure you've heard "Actually, blah blah blah. It's called such-and-such" in a depreciatory/sardonic tone, as in "DUH, how stupid are you; everyone knows that."

After getting used to your comments and grammarpolice comments, I see them more as policy/method, that errors are automatically corrected. This actually makes a lot of sense to me, in contrast to prefacing everything you say as a correction with "hey there, I am correcting your grammar, and it's not to be mean, it's just b/c it's what I do", and writing a sentence saying "In the first sentence you misused such-and-such", you just state the correction. It saves a ton of time, and it actually is much clearer once familiar with how you do it, rather than writing a long sentence to say something short each time. I will sit and think of saying things but not be sure of how to say things so it doesn't sound critical if I didn't mean it that way, and then never figure it out and never do it, but keep it in the back of my mind to do eventually and stress out about being so behind on things.

(yay, continuation!...)

I think you see conversation (or LJ at least) as less of the individuals saying stuff but more as what they say and logically analyze that. And you assume that what they say they said in a technically-correct way and perfectly logically. (BTW, i am making a ton of inferences about how you see things vs how I see things, so let me know how right I am, since I don't really know you and I am just guessing.) I, on the other hand, use it to share what I am thinking about with people and see what they think, but it is more social for me I guess. I mean, I write things and wonder what people think about them, rather than how technically I wrote them. In a lot of ways I really feel like I am missing out on logical analysis of things, and would love to immerse myself in something that was just that. However, outside of that is the world of ...well, what this world is, and I don't assume that without stating specifically that let's discuss differently than we do in the world at large that people are going to. Therefore in most of my conversations with people or in my LJ I do miss out on this one thing I want, since part of how I say things/how we interact is just cultural and the way it is done customarily. Customarily we say certain things and act in certain ways, etc.

Anyway, I like the concept of actual logical analysis rather than just random pointless conversation, but most people don't do that and I'd say that's why they would be thrown off by things you say sometimes. (And that's a comment I'd like to make in general, not just in reference to this dialog right here. It's something I've been meaning to bring up/see your thoughts on.)

"I think you see conversation (or LJ at least) as less of the individuals saying stuff but more as what they say and logically analyze that."

I do not think it would be accurate to extrapolate, from conversations with various individuals, in various setting and involving different moods, how I see conversation. It depends largely on the contextual elements previously listed and, of course, on other things.

"And you assume that what they say they said in a technically-correct way and perfectly logically."

If by that you mean that I assume they are being not literal but far from rough or crudely colloquial, that is not inaccurate. Again, however, I think it is unwise to assume from what you have seen (without having talked to me in private:)) what my MO is.

In any event, I do NOT always assume, or even often assume, that people mean what I see them as saying in my less-literal parse. That way madness lies.

"I, on the other hand, use it to share what I am thinking about with people and see what they think, but it is more social for me I guess."

A cursory examination of the past X entries in my livejournal would show you just how dry I always am:)

"I mean, I write things and wonder what people think about them, rather than how technically I wrote them."

I wonder about both. The reasons for this are a few, and I would be perfectly willing to share them with you elsewhere:)

"Anyway, I like the concept of actual logical analysis rather than just random pointless conversation, but most people don't do that and I'd say that's why they would be thrown off by things you say sometimes. Certainly. I think you can figure out for yourself how and where to find me:)

"I feel like you totally know what people are talking about but catch people on technicalities."

It is generally the case that I am able to parse things both in terms of what I think the person probably means and what someone else might think that person means. Given that this appears not to be a universal skill, when I respond as I did above it is mostly to safeguard against future misunderstanding between that person and those who can't dual-parse, so to speak.

"In this case, I think it was pretty obvious what mountainfaerie meant. She meant to say that the term "marriage" should be reserved solely for the religious aspect of unions/licences, rather than that the term marriage should be reserved solely for the religious aspect of the "ceremony"."

Yes, and I understood that. I also understand that a majority of people in the US do not grok the difference between a wedding and a marriage; mountainfaerie's unsupported objection notwithstanding, the standard in this country is that a marriage is a secular legal ceremony with an already-existing name and a wedding is a religious alegal ceremony with various names depending on faith and language of origin and such things. And I further understand (or, at least, it is my impression) that the religious aspect of securing a legal union is not necessarily a bloody thing. There is sod-all religious about getting married by a Justice of the Peace in a courthouse. So what mountainfaerie is suggesting is a vocabulary shift I find unnecessary, at the least.

"... However, I think she really wasn't being careful to be technically accurate and it wasn't a problem since we knew what she meant and in this circumstance there is no need to take the time to make sure everything is technically accurate."

Actually, given the context and the choice of words and the suggested change in words, I found it entirely apt to shoot for technical accuracy.

"Regarding her comment as well as in general, you do sometimes come off as kind of pompous, honestly."

My previous comment was written in as dry and uncolored a tone as I could muster at the time. I am known among my close friends for getting highly animated about this issue, so I was trying for as much of a dispassionate tone as I could achieve. You have problably seen it before in GP:)

"You probably said your comment in an informative manner, but I'm sure you can see how that would be read as "ooh, I am right and you are wrong and I am going to argue with you.""

To be perfectly honest, an unbiased reading of that comment of mine finds it extremely matter-of-fact and painfully divorced from any subjective tone. However, if one is approaching it from a different angle, obviously other reactions will occur.

I just think its funny that you pussies think its ok to be fags even though the bible says otherwise, hey but what does the bible know, you should change your ways before your burning in hell, for anyone to think its ok to be gay is just rediculous, your all a bunch of fools. As long as you have your other fag buddies to talk to, I guess you can all try to coach each other through it and pretend there is nothing wrong with it, just rediculous!!!
